Our Happy Tails!

Just a few of our success stories...

This is how Oscar entered into our rescue...he had a horrible case of mange. Because of the constant scratching, he also had a secondary skin infection...he was just one big sore. But it was obvious he had so much to offer under that painful exterior. After a month of treatment and another month of waiting, Oscar finally found the PERFECT forever home in Wisconsin.

This is Oscar now with one of his buddies. He is known as Spencer and his new dad is thrilled to be called such...."I know you knew this, but this little dog is amazing!!! He just fits in here perfectly, he gets along with everyone, and everyone who meets him just falls in love with him. He is really coming along with training as well, he just loves to please. He is such a fantastic dog. I can not thank you enough!!!"

Darby, now Sugar, is one of our best stories. Found by Lisa Chappel on a country road, she is now adored by a loving family in CT. "Darby is FABULOUS! She arrived safe and sound about 10am. I was a little worried she might be nervous and that we should have a low key day. Not Darby! She hit the ground running - we visited PetCo for dog goodies, Home Depot, a walk on the beach, etc, etc...What a fun and sweet personality she has! AFTER A WEEK: She couldn't be more perfect for us! She runs at full speed with Charlotte (7 - only child who now has constant, adoring playmate that follows her EVERYWHERE!) and snuggles quietly with Suzanne (81 with Alzheimer's)...she is the light of the day. Thanks for finding her and taking such good care of her!"

This is Darby when Lisa found her...what a great feeling to know that she will never have to wander those country roads again looking for food and shelter. What a sweet little girl she is.

This is Piglet (the Pointer), now Bridgett, with her new brother. "She's an absolute love and I'm so glad we have her. People can't get over how pretty and unique she is! Thank you again for eveything, taking care of her before we got her. She truly is an amazing dog and we look forward to a lifetime of love and happiness with her."

After being with us for almost 6 months, Opal finally found a home. She was brought into the Augusta shelter in May, had puppies in June and taken into a foster home. After her puppies were weaned, she made her rounds through all the foster homes...she learned how to climb a fence so back to the shelter she went, but not for long. Here is what her new family said about her: "She is a sweetheart and we love her! She was ready to get off the transport and into the backseat of our car (on her back, all four legs kicking in the air). You folks have taken such good care of her. We have enjoyed her immensely already." This just goes to show that with patience, space and funding we can find a home for them all.

Walter has been taken in by Lucky Pup Rescue in Maine where he will be in a foster home until a forever home is found. This rescue organization is one of many who provide a way out of shelters in the south and into foster homes to prepare for a new family in the New England states. 2/16 This is what Walter's foster home had to say about him: "Walter is a bundle of joy.  He was scared of his surroundings for a few minutes, but adapted very quickly.  He loves the kids.  He has tons of energy, so we took him to the dog park and found out he loves to run after tennis balls.  Like you said, he loves toys to play with.  He is doing super great."

"We are doing great!  It took 2 weeks to housetrain Portia, and she now is sleeping in our bedroom with us and my other dog at night out of her crate! She has come out of her shell and is a fun-loving, happy dog.  She is my shadow . . . does not like to let me out of her sight. Everyone who meets her on our walks and my friends think that she is beautiful." UPDATE: Just wanted to let you know that for a Christmas present, my son had her DNA done and she is an interesting mixture of:  Chow Chow (which I thought was part of her because she has a little bit of blue on the back of her tongue)

American Eskimo dog (which is why she has a curly tail; combination of the Chow too)

West Highland Terrier (which is probably why she doesn't shed very much)

German Shepherd

German short-haired pointer (why she bends her front paw when she's on a hunt alert)

Irish Setter

Only God could take all those dogs and create such a beautiful, original, medium size dog. Anyway, thank you again for rescuing her.  I love her very much.

This is from Frisky's new family in Massachusetts: "In short- Ramsey is wonderful.  He's very loveable and gets along with everyone he meets.  He has made a few dog friends in the neighborhood and likes to romp around with them.  He also likes to snuggle up on the couch and mooch belly rubs.  Its really fun to see his personality coming out as he gets more comfortable in his new home.  I no longer keep him in the crate- he is able to sleep through the night in my bedroom and is free to move about the apt during the day.  He has learned "sit" and "paw" and is working on stay. I just wanted to thank you again- I was so nervous wondering how this would all turn out...but I couldn't have asked for a better dog and smooth transition.  You are doing a wonderful thing, saving these dogs and helping to find good homes for them- keep up the good work!"

Sophie's new mom says "Oh my, she is so precious. I am really enjoying her. My friends think she is so cute.  he went to the beauty shop last Tuesday. After her surgery (spay) I slept in the recliner with her in my lap...she stayed in my lap all night and made it just fine." We couldn't have hand-picked a better home for Sophie!

This is Baby with her new kids, Jordan and Kynley. She was dropped off at the shelter and was lucky enough to be there for just a couple of days before being adopted. Now she has her own loving family AND her own wardrobe...doesn't she look adorable in her fur-lined hooded vest?

Spook and Pilots N Paws

This is Spook's private flight with the rescue group Pilots N Paws who flew her to Florida to meet her new family. Her name is now Bonnie and she's enjoying life by the pool, as you can see below!

This Redbone mama dog is going to Savannah, Georgia January 15 to live in a foster home with the American Coonhound Rescue. All it took was a few emails, someone willing to take her to the vet for a checkup and series of tests...which the rescue group will pay for...and her transport will come through and take her to a loving foster home where they will prepare her for a forever home. She's a lucky girl!

This is Red at her foster home with the American Coonhound Rescue in Georgia...some family will be very lucky to have her! 1/18 - Red, now Annie, has found her forever home in New Hampshire...this is their note to the foster: "She is such a sweetie!  I hauled an old dog bed out yesterday - tossed it in the middle of the floor intending to take the cover off and wash it - Annie sniffed, hopped on, circled and claimed it as hers.  I don't think she's ever been an "only" dog before. Our vet was very pleased and impressed with all the care that had been taken of her. We take several long walks a day and yesterday we found fresh coyote poop on the trail up back -  that took a lot of checking out! She's all the good things you said she is, plus you didn't tell us she's a good napper and snuggles on the bed.  A lovely little dog - thank you."

Our first Pet of the Week, Rosebud went to her forever home the very first day her picture was in the newspaper. A dear lady in McCrory took this doll home where she can now run and play with her new family.

This little girl is true to her name, "Precious". She was found on the side of the road scared to death, fostered for a couple of weeks and found her forever home. Precious is a very lucky girl!
